Santa Run Breaks World Record!!!!!!!!!!!
Newtown
& District Dial A Ride can now reveal that they have received
confirmation from Guinness World Record that they have made
it into the Guinness World Record Books!
The
world famous Santa Run has attracted mass crowds of Santa’s
for the past four years, with 2004 being no exception when a
World Record Breaking 4,260 Santa’s were recorded to have taken
part in the 4.5 mile fun run set in Newtown, Powys.
‘We
are absolutely thrilled! The Santa Run has gone from strength
to strength over the past four years and I really can’t stress
that it’s all down to those who have supported the event over
the past four years. This is a great achievement that Newtown
and everyone who took part in the event should be proud of and
we are pleased to be able to put Newtown and Wales on the map.
Over
the past few months we have had some bad publicity, which consequently
had nothing to with our charity event, and were glad that we
can close Santa Run 2004 on a positive note and look forward
to Santa Run 2005!’
Dougie Bancroft, Manager, Newtown
Dial a Ride
The Santa Run closely missed gaining the World
Record title in 2003 when a Santa Convention in Tipai was held
just days before the festive event in Mid Wales.
‘The numbers were so close that Guinness World
Record could not confirm who would hold the title’
Dougie
Bancroft, Manager, Newtown Dial a Ride
The
festive World Record will be officially recorded in 2005 Guinness
World Record book which will be on sale in December this year.
This is a great achievement
for Newtown & Montgomeryshire, and proves what you can achieve
when you really put your mind to it. The Santa Run has become
a constitution in Newtown, and I think its great that for one
day of the year people can dress up, have a bit of fun &
help raise money for needy causes at the same time. I’m proud
to say that I took part in last years run & are already
signed up to join in with the thousands of Santa’s this year
to maintain our World Record title’.
Les Skilton, Newtown Mayor
Santa
Run 2005 will be the events fifth birthday and the team at Dial
a Ride have already got a few ideas for the party celebrations
up their sleeves.
‘We have a
great team at Newtown Dial A Ride who are working their magic
to make Santa Run 2005 the best ever!’
Dougie
Bancroft, Manager, Newtown Dial a Ride
Final
Word From the Dial A Ride Team:
BRING ON SANTA RUN 2005!!!!
Note
to editors:
Newtown & District Dial A Ride is the only
fully accessible transport link in Mid Wales with the principle
aim in transporting the elderly and disabled.
Much of the area they cover is remote and with
public transport only covering the major A roads and some without
wheelchair access, those who live in rural areas can, and do
get isolated.
To some of their members they are the only point
of contact to the outside world and without such the Dial a
Ride service many of our members quality of life would diminish
leaving them having to rely on others. With the service Dial
a Ride members lead an independent life, knowing that sympathetic
and affordable transport is just and friendly phone call away.
To our members and their family the Dial A Ride Service is priceless.
